Modular chair system Prototype 001 / In development

One form. Many possibilities.
DÂ-NIYI is AGBOLÉ OYÈ’s inaugural modular chair system. It considers how an individual seat can become part of a shared place.
Drawing primarily from the Nuna dâgalo chair tradition of Burkina Faso, with references to Lobi tripod stools, it reinterprets the three-legged stance, deep recline, and elongated back through contemporary construction.
A discreet connection system is in development to join chairs in pairs, arcs, and circles. The project asks: can furniture create the conditions of a courtyard without building the walls?
Six editorial studies explore how surface, texture, and finish transform the same form.
Six material directions
01 — 06 / EDITORIAL STUDIES · IN DEVELOPMENTDevelopment note
Prototype 001 pairs brushed aluminium with white oak veneer. The six material directions above are editorial studies, not finalized production offerings. Proposed constructions include wenge veneer over a plywood substrate and a brushed-aluminium concept for indoor and outdoor use. A detachable neck pillow is also in development. Materials, construction, and comfort will continue to be refined before release.
A seat becomes
a space.
One is a chair. Two is a conversation.Three is a gathering. More becomes a space.
A preliminary arrangement study explores how chairs could come together to shape a gathering. The proposed 28-chair circle remains in development.
